how many books are in the new testament and old testament combined.

for the catholic bible please.

There are 73 books in the Catholic Bible. 46 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. In fact, that was the canon for the first 1200 years. In the 1500’s, after the reformation and Protestantism started, the King James Version threw out 7 books of the Old Testament, so the Main Stream Protestant religions have 66 books. The seven books thrown out had to do with origin: Hebrew vs. Greek. But this is beyond your question.

how many books are in the Catholic Bible.

how many books in all. i dont really want to know each testament. just both combined. thanks!

There are seventy-three books in the Catholic Bible; forty-six in the Old Testament and twenty-seven in the New Testament. Until the Protestant Reformation the ‘Catholic’ Bible was the only edition since, obviously, there was no other major denomination till then. The Protestant Bible is based on the Council of Jamnia (90 AD), whereas the Catholic Bible is based largely on the Septuagint (132 BC). The Seven books that were dropped in the Council of Jamnia (90 AD) were: Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, 1 & 2 Maccabees, Esther 10:4-16-16:24 and Daniel 3:24-90 and 13:1-14:42. Until the Protestant Reformation, these books were in the recognised canons as approved by the Catholic Church. After the Reformation, the Council of Trent (1545-1563 AD) reaffirmed the Canon as approved by Pope Damasus and the Synod of Rome (382), the local Councils of Hippo (393) and Carthage (397), and the Canon contained in the Latin Vulgate translation (420) as the Holy Bible.
